Artist Statement  

As an artist, I am primarily concerned with exploring and exploiting the well-known, iconic imagery we deal with on a daily basis.  I seek to define those objects by the space and context in which they exist on the page or canvas or in 3 dimensional forms.  To do this, I work with a great amount of precision and attention to detail.  Objects must be carefully and boldly rendered and also positioned in a way that allows them a space in which to be present and relevant.  I also endeavor to create work that is clearly defined and balanced.  This balance is not necessarily always harmonious.  My work plays on contrasting ideas and colors within the context of duplicated images.  Each element must not only stand on its own, but also work within the group of images. Whether reproduced exactly with stencils or approximated by hand, the reiteration of these themes creates a dialogue between the image(s) and the space(s) they occupy.  It also creates a conversation between the repeated images themselves, mirroring the exchange between people and the countless objects they own and use on a daily basis.
